Somers Point Welcomes New Businesses in 2011 With More on the Horizon in 2012



Somers Point, NJ – February 14, 2012 – More than a dozen new businesses and restaurants opened their doors within the City of Somers Point during the past year, with more to come in 2012. 
Restaurants dominated the list along with health care facilities, professional services and retail businesses.
“Somers Point has always been an active business hub, but now with the Route 52 Causeway development and  Shore Medical Center’s expansion, a renaissance is being been created here – with more  businesses considering Somers Point as the perfect location to open or expand a business,” explained Lou DeScoili, Somers Point Economic Development Commission Chair. 
Nine new eateries joined Somers Point during 2011: Latz’s By the Bay, Big Bouys by the Bay, Clancy’s by the Bay, Baia, Bay Ave Sushi, Subway, Italian Street Brick Oven Pizzeria, Wind Jammer Diner Bar Grille, and China May.  In addition to the eateries, two new ice cream shops opened: Anna’s Ice Cream and YoGo Factory.  Dunkin’ Donuts expanded its size and moved its location from a strip mall on New Road to the former site of Sonic across the street. Healthcare in Somers Point expanded with the opening of the Surgical Pavilion at Shore Medical Center, as well with AtlantiCare Urgent Care, Dr. Janes & Dr. Hierholzer, and Shore Winds Adult Medical Day Care Center were introduced.  Also joining the Somers Point business family are Network Connectivity, Bay Harbor Realty, Jersey Marine, Marks Insurance and Somers Point News and Tobacco.  
Only two months into 2012, more businesses have announced expansion plans or pending business openings in Somers Point: 
Anna’s Ice Cream - Located on Bethel Road, construction is underway for spring or summer launch.

This newly opened hot spot has a full bar and seafood menu as well as traditional pub food.  Be sure to check out the new deck opening in the summer of 2012
Fitzpatrick’s Deli - is relocating from its current location in the Groveland Shopping Center on New Road to its own space at 650 New Road, the former location of JR’s Tavern. The new Fitzpatrick’s will be bigger and better than ever, with more space and parking in this free-standing location. 
Platinum Car Wash - Located on Ocean Heights Avenue near New Road

This create-your-own frozen yogurt shop will open in March with 14 flavors and more than 50 toppings

This 135,000 square foot Surgical Pavilion with modern operating and recovery rooms and other support space is the main highlight of the hospital’s Campus Development Plan. The Surgical Pavilion has 11 operating rooms—offering surgical suites over twice the size of the current space—and is outfitted with the latest technology. Additionally, the pavilion is home to all areas of surgical services including registration, pre-admission testing, surgical reception and the post-anesthesia care unit.

The City of Somers Point is the oldest settlement in Atlantic County, dating back to 1693. This four square mile attractive town is located in the eastern portion of Atlantic County in what was once known as Great Egg Harbor and was first incorporated as a borough in 1886.
