Help Needed for Tornado Survivors in Tennessee

It sounds like a train, heading directly for your house -- and if you don't have a basement there isn't a damn thing you can do to truly protect yourself. If you've never experienced a tornado first hand it might be hard to comprehend just how powerful they can be.

Tornado's skip across the landscape, and I was seven the night one skipped over our house and completely destroyed the building behind us. A few years later the "Palm Sunday" tornado's touched down in 20 counties in Indiana, killing 137 people. That's the thing about a tornado, you never know who will be spared, and who will have their homes and lives destroyed.

Why am I sharing all this? Because it's happened again, only this time in Tennessee.

Monkeyfister, who lives in Memphis, is urging lefty bloggers to open their pocketbooks in a fundraiser for Storm Relief. Please do what you can, and keep passing these around:

American Red Cross
Mid-South Chapter
1400 Central Avenue
Memphis, TN 38104
901-726-1690

And:

United Way of the Mid-South
6775 Lenox Center Court
Suite 200
Memphis, TN 38115
901-433-4300

Send whatever you can, no contribution is too small.
The photo is of a tornado that passed not far from Monkeyfister's home.
