Because someone wants to know more about meme

Wow, Liberality tagged me with the six random things meme. Having just done this one the other day I'm not sure I'm interesting enough to have another go at it ... but what the heck ...

Here are "The Rules":

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.
1. I had a wonderful time today at EMILY's List Inaugural Luncheon. The speakers were inspiring -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Secretary of State Designate Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Homeland Security Designate Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Labor Designate Hilda Solis, NC Gov Pev Perdue, NH Senator Jeanne Shaheen, NC Senator Kay Hagan, WI Congresswoman Gwen Moore and incoming White House Communications Director Ellen Moran. I also had a chance to catch up with long time friends from around the country, and make new ones.

2. There must be a new Sprint tower in my neighborhood, because my cell phone now works inside my house. This might seem trivial to you, but it means no more long distance charges on my land line. Whoo hoooo

3. I just downloaded more than 700 photos from my digital camera onto my hard drive. It was a short walk down memory lane seeing pics of some of my blogger friends, family members, my dogs playing in the yard last summer, a Hillary fundraising event where I was inches away from our new Secretary of State, and random photos of my house.

4. I have a crush on Dr. Zaius ... there, I've said it out loud ...

5. My favorite color is blue; my sister got the reading gene, I usually wait for the movie; and I love children, but never wanted to give birth.

6. I used to write and illustrate comic strips for fun when I was in college. I also had a part time job while in college drawing shoes for a local shoe store that were used in their newspaper ads. Instead of paying me in cash, for every five drawings I could select a free pair of shoes (so I always picked the most expensive!).

That's it! If you have been moved by reading this, please feel free to consider yourself tagged!

Because it's all about meme

Earlier this evening I crossed paths with Lisa on Facebook, after I had said that I was trying to decide what to post on my blog. She said she was about to include me in a 'random six things' tag.

The Rules

Here we go!

1. I fixed pasta in a microwave for the first time tonight ... and it didn't suck.

2. I'm suddenly obsessed with my Facebook page, I've found friends that I haven't communicated with for more than a decade.

3. I just took down my Christmas decorations today. I decided to keep them up a little longer than I had intended, since I was gone for more than a week during the holidays and didn't get to enjoy them. This was the first time I had a tree, and I even put lights around the front porch.

4. I love dark chocolate and strawberries.

5. I hate it when a ringing phone wakes me up in the morning -- like today!

6. Reading Lisa's post reminded me that in three months I will turn 56, which was my mothers age when she died. At 21 I thought I was far too young to have lost my mother. Now that I'm turing 56 it seems way too young an age for someone to die.

So on that happy note, it's time for me to tag six people.

I'd like to know more about Dcap, SueJ, Dean Wormer, Germaine Gregarious, D. R. Scott, and finally, my favorite Dyke!

And as my friend Lisa said: "I know these tags and memes get run into the ground, but if you don't do it, I'm going to come pee in your bottom drawer, so I suggest you seriously consider following through. Thank you."

Thank you, and goodnight!

7 Things Meme

I have been tagged by Dr. Zaius with the following meme, and he's just so darned cute how could I resist?

The rules:

1. List these rules on your blog.

2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog.

3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
Hummmm ... let's see:

Fact #1 I have a full set of drums, and have played them in public three times with two different groups.

Fact #2 I have five shelves of books in my home that I have not yet read -- and more than 600 DVD's, and have watched all but a handful.

Fact #3 Strawberries and dark chocolate are my two favorite foods. And I didn't like peanut butter as a kid, but now I love it.

Fact #4 (This is for Dr. Z) Before she became Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and I once stood with our arm around each other while talking with some friends.

Fact #5 The last two times I rented a car in CA I was stopped by the police. I got a ticket (for not wearing my seat belt) and a warning.

Fact #6 The Rev. Jesse Jackson once called me from Japan. He was traveling with my supervisor from NOW and they needed something, but I can't remember now why he called? ha

Fact #7 I've worn the same Birkenstocks, as house slippers, for the past 13 years.

If you would like to take part in this meme consider yourself tagged!

The Inquisition Meme

I've been tagged by Jewgirl at all the way from oy to vey to tell a little bit about myself. So drink plenty of coffee, drink a lot of cola or maybe Red Bull so you can stay awake for this one! ha

Ten years ago what were you doing?

I was unemployed, spending some time looking for a job and lots of time playing with Braco Lee and discovering the internets.

Five things on today's "To Do" list:

1. Post the Sunday Funnies -- done.Pick up some video's -- done.
2. Get something to grill -- done.
3. Grumble while watching the morning talking-heads shows -- done.
4. Cuddle with the dogs -- not quite done.
5. Begin a much-needed vacation!

If I were a billionaire:

Financially provide for my family and friends for life (stolen directly from Schwartzy).
Establish a foundation to support the things in life I'm most passionate about.
I'd need a home in Manhattan, as I'd be spending more time at the theater.
I'd need a home in a warm climate somewhere, during winter.
And I'd travel, but by private jet so that I'd never again have to wait in a line at the airport.

Three bad habits:

1. Not taking care of myself -- not enough sleep, bad diet, no exercise.
2. Not spending enough time with friends and family.
3. I sometimes talk more than I listen.

Five places I've lived:

Middletown, IN
Indianapolis, IN
Ft. Myers, FL
Washington, DC
Secret, undisclosed location in MD

Five jobs I've had:

(I can only list five? Yikes!)
1. In media: television, radio and advertising (including owning an ad agency for 7 years)
2. Insurance health, auto, then property claims adjuster - that job sucked!
3. Resort timeshare company, in-house ad agency, in FL - got to hang out at the beach a lot!
4. NOW - managing editor of National NOW Times, and field organizer - quite fun!
5. Full time activist with a wonderful non-profit based in DC

I'm tagging whoever wants to do this meme. Just let me know and I'll update the post with a link to your blog.

Book meme

Boxer has just tagged me with a book meme, and here are the rules:
  1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more.

  2. Find page 123.

  3. Find the first 5 sentences and read them.

  4. Post the next 3 sentences.
The book closest to me is "This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor" by Dr. Susan Wicklund. Dr. Wicklund is an abortion provider, who for a time was the only doctor providing abortions in a three state area. She would literally fly from state to state, often hiding in the trunk of a car from the airport to some point away from the airport that was deemed safe for her to switch to the passenger seat. For years the "Lambs of God" were camped out on her property, stalking her daughter at school, and threatening them on a daily basis.

I'm telling you this to set up the three sentences (actually more than three, because I always question authority) that I'm about to share.

"He told me I should have the pistol on me at all times, if only to get completely used to it. I always unloaded it when I came home to Marypat and Al's, but every day I wore it.

One of the first days I wore the gun, two acquaintances came by and asked if I would join them in a nearby cafe for beer and a sandwich after work. I changed into jeans and a large, loose-knit sweater and went out the door, happy for the invitation. Midway through the meal I felt one of the loops on the sweater catch on the release of the holster. The pistol came loose and slipped under my arm. The heavy weapon flopped into the sweater fabric, started to slide toward my hip.

Just what I needed, I thought. Way to make a great impression, guns falling out of my clothes."
I have known Susan for many years, and find her to be a wonderful and courageous woman. She has truly been on the front line in this culture war, and thankfully has lived to tell her story. She is one of my inspirations for doing the work that I do, and why I would like everyone to get involved in our First Freedom First campaign. If you have not clicked on the ad in the sidebar to sign the petition, please do so now.

And coming soon, a major announcement about a big event taking place on March 26! Stay tuned!

I will tag:
Jess at I was just wondering
Dean Wormer at The Dean's Office
Dr. Zaius at Zaius Nation
Mary Ellen at The Divine Democrat

Meme ... meme ... meeeeeee

Mathman has tagged me on yet another meme to come up with a list of items that are both untrue and true. So let's see if I could possibly come of with a list that might fool some of you.

1. Funny that Mathman should mention the Beatles, because I was a huge fan. When they played at the Indiana State Fair grounds I attended the concert.

2. I was also quite the tomboy when growing up, and was the first girl to play on a Little League baseball team in my home town of Middletown.

3. In college I was a news reporter for the campus radio station.

4. While student teaching in Indianapolis, Jane Pauley came to our school. She tripped while walking through a doorway, and I caught her and prevented her from falling. She thanked me and I said it was my way 'to support women' ... she laughed.

5. When I lived in Flordia I was the promotion manager for a Top 40 radio station. One morning as a joke, the morning DJ's decided to call me at home and ask what promotions were coming up that weekend. Even though it was 6 am when the phone rang, I answered their question. Another co-worker said it reminded her of Radar on MASH.

6. As most of you know, I'm a passionate liberal activist. The influence for my becoming a liberal was the strong liberal views of my parents.

7. For a short period of time I was a used car salesperson, which probably accounts for why I like to kick tires.

So, which items above are true, and which are false?

I think this might have been around awhile, so consider yourself tagged if you would like to participate. Oh, and whoever I 'borrowed' the photo from, thanks!
