Take Action Today on Stem Cell Research

The House of Representatives is expected to consider and vote on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (H.R. 3) today. This bill would provide federal funding for stem cell research. Embryonic stem cells have the potential to be used to treat and better understand diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, spinal cord injury, diabetes, ALS and cancer. It is important that you to contact your Representative as soon as possible and urge him/her to vote YES on H.R. 3, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.

Bush vetoed a stem cell research bill (with similar language to H.R. 3) in July 2006, after it had passed both the Senate and House with wide, bipartisan support. The 2006 election saw voters all around the country cast ballots for and elect candidates who were committed to sound science and the promise of stem cell research. It is imperative that you contact your Member of Congress and let him/her know that this is an extremely important issue and one you will be monitoring closely.

TAKE ACTION NOW - Write Your Representative
Here is a suggested message you can copy and paste into an email message to them:

Support Life-Saving Stem Cell Research and vote AYE on H.R. 3 this Thursday.

As a constituent, I urge you to support H.R. 3, the Stem Cell Research Act. Embryonic Stem Cell research provides the promise to potentially save millions of lives, to find cures for diseases affecting millions of Americans. Advancing the health and well-being of all Americans requires medical research and policy that is grounded in sound science.

It is critical that our publicly-backed scientific institutions and policies are guided by objectivity, facts, and evidence, and not by conservative religious ideology. Restrictive religious beliefs should not guide our government's funding of scientific endeavors -- sacrificing potentially life-saving technologies that could benefit all Americans in the process. Public funding must be invested in advancing science that benefits all Americans.

Once again, I am implore you to support H.R. 3, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. As your constituent, this issue is very important to me and something I will be closely monitoring.
