Crashing through!

This was a particularly good movie year for people involved in social justice work. Brokeback Mountain forced people to talk about gay stereotypes, and shattered some of the myths around being gay. Felicity Huffman was fabulous in Transamerica, a film that opened new doors for conversation about gender identity. Charlize Theron portrayed a woman standing up for herself and for what is right in North Country. Philip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal of Truman Capote was brilliant. George Clooney gave an Oscar winning performance in Syriana, and in Good Night, and Good Luck reminded us that we must keep our eyes on the individuals we entrust with power in this country. Munich, a film about terrorism in the 70's, is still relevant today. But the biggest surprise of the night was a film confronting racism taking the top prize. Congratulations to Crash!
